How do I avoid running out of battery during a recording?

During long recording sessions or busy schedules, the Space Recorder may not have enough charge to complete your intended recording. To ensure continuous operation, it’s important to regularly monitor the battery level via the Space Recorder’s display or the Companion app.

There are two methods to keep the device charged during a recording:

Option 1: Use the charging case during recording

While placing the Space Recorder in its charging case can be a convenient solution, it comes with a drawback. The case can partially block some of the microphones, causing acoustic shadowing. This interference disrupts the precise acoustic measurements required for accurate Spatial Audio rendering, as the charging case reflects sound and distorts the results.

If Spatial Audio is not needed for your recording, you can safely place the device in the charging case. You may see a notification on the display when docking it, but this can be ignored as long as you’re aware that Spatial Audio will be affected.

Important: Do not place the charging case lid on during recording, as this may unintentionally activate sleep mode and stop the recording.

Option 2: Connect the Space Recorder to a USB charger

The Space Recorder features a USB port on its right side, located above two of its built-in microphones that contribute to Spatial Audio capture. While charging the device via USB, careful placement of the cable is important to avoid interference with Spatial Audio processing.

If your project requires Spatial Audio, position the cable away from the microphones, and use a thin cable if possible to minimise disruption. If Spatial Audio is not essential, you can connect the recorder to a charger without concern.

By following these methods, you can ensure the Space Recorder stays charged without compromising your recording requirements.
