Sound Capsule shows an "internal error, please contact support" message
If your Sound Capsule shows a screen mentioning an internal error (sometimes referencing "M7") and asking you to contact support, here's what's going on and how to fix it.
What you might see
- The Capsule screen shows a message about an internal error and asks you to contact support
- This usually shows up right after the Capsule starts up or reboots
- The screen may briefly go black before the message appears
What's actually happening
This is triggered by an occasional hiccup in the Capsule's startup process. It's uncommon, and in the cases we've looked into, it has only ever happened during startup — never during an active recording.
The message itself sounds more serious than the situation really is. In almost all cases, restarting the Capsule clears it right away, and there's no impact on your recordings.
How to fix it
- Reboot the Sound Capsule (turn it off, then back on).
- If you don't do this yourself, the Capsule will restart on its own after a few minutes.
Either way, the Capsule goes back to working normally afterwards, and any recordings already on the device are unaffected.
If it keeps happening
If you run into this message more than once, reach out to support with a photo of the screen and a note on when it happened (e.g. right after power-on, partway through a recording session). That helps us keep track of it.
