Please read through this guide to get some useful tips on how to charge your Sound Capsule.
Please note: We always recommend charging the Sound Capsule before first-time use
Charging the Sound Capsule
The Charging Case is the primary method for charging the Sound Capsule. It powers the Space Recorder and Stellar Mics from its internal battery or via pass-through when connected to a power adapter. To charge the whole unit at once, insert a USB cable into the Charge Case and connect the other end to a suitable adaptor.
A suitable charger would be one that meets the following voltage and current requirements:- Charging Case: 5V-12V DC, 1.7A
- Space Recorder: 5V-12V DC, 2.6A
Typically, this would mean any USB adaptor with an output greater than 20W. However, due to the nature of some manufacturers stance on compatibility, you may have to test out a few different adaptors in order to find one powerful enough to charge the whole kit simultaneously.
Luckily, there is a way to improve the charging speed and reduce output requirements from your charger. By charging the Space Recorder and the Charging Case separately, either simultaneously or one after the other, you will charge the Sound Capsule at a much faster rate. Simply connect a second USB cable to the Space Recorder, and you are good to go.
Understanding the Space Recorder display:
- The battery level of all parts of the kit is shown in the column on the right. Ensure that you have enough battery level prior to recording and updating the kit.
Note: The Charging Case is an important part of the Sound Capsule and must be charged to ensure proper operation.
The information shown on the Space Recorder display will change depending on the kit's configuration:
- Undocked Stellar Mic's will be placed above the Charging Case in the list and will have a grey background as well as a wireless signal-strength icon next to the battery level.
- When the Space Recorder is not in the Charging Case, or whenever the Charging Case has ran out of battery completely, there will be no battery information shown on the Space Recorder display
- Docked Stellar Mics will be at the bottom of the list, beneath the Charging Case, and will be shown as either charging or fully charged. There will be no wireless signal-strength icon shown on docked Stellar Mic's.
Flight Mode
To prevent the Charging Case from powering the Space Recorder and Stellar Mics, you can enable “Flight Mode”. This is useful during travel by aeroplane, postage or for long term storage.
